One primordial objective of Medical and Veterinary Entomology is to optimise control methods and strategies against vec tor -borne diseases of human and animal interest. To meet that goal, research needs to be or iented towards a precise understanding of vectors’ role and behaviour in their given ecosystems to, in turn, reduce disease transmission, particularly in the context of a changing environment (climatic change, human modifications). Because challenges are manifold, Entomologists must take a multidisciplinary approach in order  to succeed: Climate, Wars, Economic Pressure, Cultural Practices impact the way a disease is transmitted and thus the way it could be controlled. Future Entomologists will need to look at the large picture of an increasingly global world while mastering the local dynamics of vector-borne diseases.

THE OBJECTIVES

The scientific and educational objectives of the International Master of medical and veterinary Entomology (IME)  are to develop a comprehensive training on research areas such as vector systematic, vector biology and ecology, population genetics, genomics and vector control.

The IME’s professional objective is to optimise the preparation of future PhD students into the different options - public health, veterinary, teaching  and research.

CONTENT

The course content of the IME is regarded as a supplement to the basic training acquired during a BSc. in Life Sciences.

Theoretical courses allow students to gain the necessary basis and common knowledge. Laboratory and field-work practices provide a hands-on experience.

Research training practices initiate students into real research conditions. Research traning practices are accomplished by oral presentations of  a written report at the end of the academic year.
